There isn’t anything better than a warm bowl of porridge on a wintry morning, unless it has cinnamon date puree on top. Made from just dates, cinnamon and water, this simple recipe can make almost anything taste ten times better.
This recipe is cheap and easy to make. I bought a bag of dried pitted dates from my local Lidl, they don’t need to be Medjool as they will soften once cooked.
To make 1 medium jar:
- 300g dates
- 2tsp cinnamon
- In a deep pan, add the dates, pour water in to the pan just enough to cover the dates.
- Let this cook for at least 15 minutes on a low heat. Mash with the back of a wooden spoon – if all the dates are soft. There should be no water left once its mashed together. Stir in the cinnamon.
- Place in a sterilised jar and leave in the fridge for up to two weeks (If it lasts that long)!
